The Ministry of Foreign Affairs & International Cooperation hosted a meeting with Mr. Braeden Young, Director for Mexico and the Caribbean at the Office of the United States Trade Representative. Mr. Young is responsible for developing, coordinating, and implementing U.S. trade and investment policy in the Caribbean region.
The meeting was chaired by Foreign Secretary, Mr. Robert Persaud and allowed for discussions on U.S. trade policy priorities and USTR engagement in the region in 2023.
Among the issues discussed were the priorities of the US for engagement with Guyana and CARICOM, the optimization of trade between the two countries under the Caribbean Basin Trade Partnership Act (CBTPA), the restriction on Guyana’s export of Siluriformes (Catfish) to the US and the resuscitation of the Council on Trade and Investment formed under the U.S.-CARICOM Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
